Open Enrollment Period – January 1 through March 31, 2024
Now that AEP [Annual Enrollment Period] is over [ended December 7, 2023], I wanted to bring to your attention another enrollment period that starts January 1, 2024.
For those of you who are on a Medicare Advantage plan, you get a bonus enrollment period called the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which runs from January 1st through March 31st. During the OEP we can:
- Switch you from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan - If you enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan during the AEP, and for some reason you do not like that plan, we can make one last change and switch you to a different Advantage plan during OEP. Also, if there is a newer, better priced plan available to you, we can make that change during the OEP.
- Switch you from a Medicare Advantage plan back to Original Medicare (with a Medicare Supplement plan and a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan) - The challenge with this type of change is that, in order to enroll in a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan, you would have to be able to answer underwriting health assessment questions and be approved by the insurance company based on your health. The insurance company could decline your application.
Also, for those of you who live in North San Diego county, have a United Healthcare Medicare Advantage HMO plan, and see Graybill or Arch Health Partners doctors, we may have a plan available to you that has better benefits. This year Arch and Graybill joined together to become Palomar Health. Palomar Health doctors will continue to accept the UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, but they also accept other insurance plans that may offer lower copays and more extensive additional benefits than your current plan. If you would like to explore those options, please call me at (858) 935-9120 or email me at jim@themedicareanswerguy.com and I will see if we might be able to make a switch that would be beneficial to you between January and March of 2024.
I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and I pray that you will have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
